Project Fantastico

Introduction to Playground Fantastico Project

Playground Fantastico is a very imaginative play area located in the southwestern corner of the city of Napa, California.  It was built several years ago by Rotary Club members and other interested community members and parents.  The River School project at PF began in 2008 and has been slowly growing.  Students use the wildland area that is on the north side of the playground as a living laboratory to study life.  This area includes a waterway filled with cattails and bordered by non-native blackberry vines on  both sides and a combination of native and non-native trees and bushes to the north, climbing up a slight incline to a street.  Very little positive attention has been paid to this area and much trash accumulates there.  In spite of this, nature survives and flourishes – squirrels and many kinds of birds frequent the area, spiders of many sizes spin webs in the brush, fish live in the water.  There is plenty of room for improvement and enhancement to this little jewel of nature.  It provides a wonderful opportunity for students to study the environment,  learn to serve our community and view the beauty of nature.  Playground Fantastico, developed to its full potential, could also become an educational nature experience for all the playground visitors.

This website, created by students, chronicles their efforts to study and improve the area.  We hope you enjoy looking at our pictures (all taken by students) and reading our stories (all written by students except for this).  All the materials we use for this project are grant-funded.  If you or your organization are interested in donating to our project, contact me at my school email address – [email protected]
